At Transport Mutual Credit Union, we are always looking at ways at enhancing our members data security. On the 04 September 2023 we will require Strong Passwords for internet banking logins.
What is a strong password?
A strong password is one that is designed to be hard for a person or program to guess. Because the purpose of a password is to ensure that only authorised users can access your data, a password that is easy to guess is a cybersecurity risk. When people create login credentials, they often defeat the purpose by creating a simple password. They choose their names, phone numbers, birthdays or even the word "password" itself, the most commonly used password for many years. Instead, the best way to prevent a data breach, identify theft or other unauthorized access to private information, is to create complex, long passwords.
Strong Password Parameters
· Must be between of 8 – 40 characters
· Must contain at least one number
· Must contain at least one upper case letter
· Must contain at least one lower case letter
· Must contain a special character (such as !@#$%&)
What you need to do?
If you are using a simple password, you can immediately improve your account security by logging into internet banking and updating your password to a strong password. Alternatively, the next time you are required to change your password you will need to enter a password using the above parameters. This change will take effect from the 04 September 2023.
